prayer and the cross

the cross of jesus christ

Yesterday I wrote of how prayer related to the throne of Jesus Christ. Today I want to tackle prayers relation to the cross of Jesus Christ.

The cross of Roman times had no conception of compromise. It didn’t ever make a single concession. It won every argument by killing its opponent and silencing him for good. It didn’t even spare Christ, but killed Him just the same as all of the rest. He was alive when they put Him on that Cross, but He was dead when the pulled Him down six hours later.

When the apostles went out through the Roman Empire to preach, what they preached was the cross. And this foolish preaching of the cross lead to half of the Roman Empire converting to Christianity by approximately 300 A.D..

It did all of this and continued to do it as long as it was permitted to remain what it always had been - a cross.

prayer, passion, and the throne of Jesus

undeniably jesus

So here we go:

I’m reading through a load of New and Old Testament passages on prayer, while simultaneously trying to pick apart Calvin’s comments on prayer in his Institutes of the Christian Religion, and I’ve been very convicted by one recurring theme.

Prayer is intimately connected to passion. And passion, ladies and gents, is one of a number of things that is severely lacking in my own prayer life.

The single, unifying passion of all prayer is Jesus. As the image says,

So why this obsession with Jesus?

Sorry for the lack of blog-age, but I’m out of town for the next two days, and trying to study up for the series on prayer.

Thanks for continuing to check in, and I’ll hopefully have something up soon.

jesus for president

2008-01-12

Long Live the Slaughtered LambShane Claiborne and friends (notably the psalters), are getting ready to embark on the Jesus For President tour here in the States, and I’m absolutely stoked.

Shane is the author of The Irresistible Revolution, a great read for those of you who are interested in New Monasticism, and how being the church can impact our society.

Let’s remember, especially heading into the most hyped election year in a long time, that we must unite under the banner of Christ, and His kingdom, and not any of the little political misrepresentations of it.

LONG LIVE THE SLAUGHTERED LAMB!
